Businesses of all types are re-opening their doors as the country recovers from the COVID-19 crisis. If you were forced to suspend your business operations during the crisis, what do you need to do to get your merchant credit card processing account back up and running?
The answer to this question depends on how long your business was closed and how you handled your merchant account when you suspended business.

In general, if your merchant account is simply inactive – that is, if you haven’t formally closed it – then you can easily reactivate it. Contact the Higher Standards office or your expert advisor to let us know when you’re reopening.

If you permanently closed your account, you’ll need to apply for a new account. Again, contact our office or your advisor to get the paperwork started.

Whether you’re reactivating an existing account or opening a new one, you’ll also need to make sure that your terminal and other equipment is in working condition. Do a thorough cleaning of your device (instructions here) and get everything connected at least 24 hours before you plan on reopening your business. This will let your terminal batch and install any necessary updates overnight and be ready to go when you open your doors the next day.
