To our expert advisors:

Due to the government’s recent imposition of tariffs on certain goods manufactured in China, prices are increasing on many of our credit terminals and related equipment. These price changes are effective September 1, 2019, and affect equipment sold both by First Data and Clover.

(Contrary to popular belief, tariffs are not paid by the Chinese government, but are in fact passed on to customers in the U.S., hence the higher prices.)

Please contact us here at Higher Standards or access the advisor website for more details and specific pricing.

Here’s the message from First Data:

First Data Hardware Services has been in contact with you periodically over the last 18 months regarding United States Government tariffs on certain Chinese-made products that you may purchase from us. As we have previously communicated, a subset of products you currently purchase are subject to a 25% tariff, which we have been assessing as a separate line item fee whenever you purchase those products.

Based on the latest communications from the US Trade Representative (USTR), the breadth of products impacted has expanded and the tariff fees increased. For your reference, on August 13th, 2019 the USTR issued a press release that stated, “On May 17, 2019, USTR published a list of products imported from China that would be potentially subject to an additional 10 percent tariff. This new tariff will go into effect on September 1 as announced by President Trump on August 1.” Further, an August 23rd USTR press release states, “For the 10% tariffs on approximately $300 billion worth of Chinese imports that the President announced earlier this month, the tariffs will now be 15%, effective on the already scheduled dates for tariff increases on these imports.”

You can read the entire statements on https://ustr.gov/.

Due to the complexity of the various USTR import code classifications, some products have been tariffed at 25% and others at 15%. The following page contains the tariff fee we will charge you for each product you may purchase, which reflects the actual USTR tariff classification for that product.

As we had previously communicated earlier this month, these fees are in effect beginning on September 1, 2019.

Please contact your FDHS Sales Representative or Relationship Manager with any questions. For official information about this topic, please consult the Office of the US Trade Representative via their website.
